Ten Thursdays

In the meantime, while waiting for Spooner to return from overseas, I’ve been back at Tim’s [Tim Browne's studio] recording songs for an album Tim and I are doing over ten Thursdays. Tim has moved from The Gay Towers Studio into a pretty little Crosby cul-de-sac down the road. Ten songs seemed like a good idea as we both work better to deadlines. It’s also a possible album title. Ten Thursdays by The Thursday Club…that kind of thing. We haven’t really done anything together recording wise since the Growing up with VP record and are three days into schedule with seven to go. The ten tracks outlined are in various states of completion and the songs are a different set to those currently attached to Spooners hard drive. Some of them were shortlisted for the Growing up record but most have been written in the last year or so and for one reason or another they either didn't work with the band or were stylistically unsuitable. I love working with Tim who has a strictly no preconceptions approach. Tim also has a knack of turning some of the more introspective songs [and I seem to have plenty of them kicking around] into something completely different. Like Monty Python. Like Rufus and King Crimson and Pilot. It will of course end up sounding like a VP record. If the songs don’t work we just sack them and move on. I am of course prone to over excitement about this and none of the above might work out. Still you knew that already. Thought I’d better add that in case of disasters which seem all too evident of late. As for the fire damage to Spooners studio I have no more news on that score. On a more concrete note Craig and I have several duo shows in October which we’re looking forward to, do come if you can, details on the tour dates pages, VPx
